Celeb Saturday- The Young Up-And-Comers

Move over Taylor Swift, Emmy Rossum, Blake Lively, and Rachel Bilson! There is a new crop of up-and-coming fashionistas taking over Hollywood! Although these teenagers aren't even old enough to drive, their fashion choices are mature and their personal styles are well-developed and recognizable.

Already featured in magazines, adored on the red carpet, and followed by the paparazzi- Elle Fanning, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Bella Thorne are fashion celebrities before their 16th birthday. Elle is known for her superior dramatic acting chops, Chloe for her brilliant versatility, and Bella for her fun and spirited dancer/actress enthusiasm.  But beyond their acting abilities, these girls have the "it" factor, which is emoted through their personalities and accented by their fashion.

Elle Fanning:
Age 14
 The Elegant Romantic

Elle's fashion sense is soft and romantic with a  vintage influence.  At just 14, Elle is poised and
elegant, while still retaining a fresh and youthful aura.

Chloe Grace Moretz:
Age 15
The Pouty-Lipped Edgy Hipster

See more of Chloe in this post about celeb transformations from the red carpet to the streets!
Chloe is inspired by dark jewel tones and structured body-conscious silhouettes. She is the funky hipster of her celebrity generation and her looks are dark and edgy with a blonde-haired, pouty-lipped girlish twist.

 Bella Thorne:
Age 14
The Sassy Mini Sex-Kitten

Bella radiates fun and youthful energy, but this 14-year-old loves to show some leg! Wearing waist-cinching and body-bearing ensembles in light airy colors, she suggests that a sexy, confident young woman is emerging.

All three of these girls are stars, and their stars will continue to rise. But which young lady's fashions do you like the most?

Magazine Monday-Harper's Bazaar "The Mini Turns 50"

In her article about the history of the mini skirt written for Harper's Bazaar online, Katie Pieri says "Fifty years after a small London designer, Mary Quant, debuted her head-turning, boundary-crossing, fashion-changing, societal barometer known as the mini skirt, it's still a hot commodity."

Isn't that the truth! Since it's debut, the mini-skirt has exhibited unwavering popularity. It's shape has changed, as have it's colors, patterns, and overall aesthetic-but it's popularity has never changed. Women continue to want to show the world some leg, and I don't blame them. Most women feel better about their legs than they do about their tummies or their bums, which is why we see more women wearing mini-skirts than short-shorts and crop-tops.

So, taking my inspiration from Pieri's article, I've compiled my favorite mini-skirt moments from her article and from other places. Then, I've found some great vintage skirts from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s in Etsy shops in case you love the look of a decade so much that you want to buy it!

Lets see those gams!

The 1960s:
Jean Shrimpton- October 30, 1965

Twiggy- August 21, 1967

1960s minis

The 1970s:
1970s Minis

Bianca Jagger, 1974

BottegaVintage Etsy Shop- Vintage 1970s Skirt
$39.00

The 1980s:
Madonna- May 18th, 1985

SemipreciousGarnetts Etsy Shop- Vintage 1980s Skirt
$20.00

The 1990s:
Alicia Silverstone and Stacey Dash in Clueless, 1995

Decades Etsy Shop-Vintage 1990s Skirt
$24.00

The Present:
Blake Lively-May 9th 2011

Diane Kruger- May 17th, 2012

I love the 1960s mini. Twiggy is the queen of the 1960's mini and it's super-short, young-and-fresh aesthetic;and I love looking at her pictures from that era.  I love little jumpers with a psychedelic print.

However, the mini skirt in any era gives the woman wearing it an instant air of confidence that everyone can see.  Which mini skirt moment is your favorite? Or, maybe you have one of your own?

Magazine Monday-Street Style (Inspiration)

This Magazine Monday I'm inspired by Street-Style. Many (if not all) of the top magazines have a section dedicated to street-style on their websites.  These girls aren't dressing-to-impress on a red carpet or at a party, they're just looking gorgeous in their everyday lives! I think that we can all learn from these ladies, and use our stylish instincts every day when putting together an outfit-not just when we're going out at night. You never know who's looking!

My favorites:

Photos courtesy of Glamour Magazine's Tumblr:

I love that printed maxi dress! So fun and flirty.

That brown leather skirt is cool and laid-back, but still looks put-together.

I adore prints-on-prints! These colors look amazing together!

A fancy statement necklace glamorizes a basic t-shirt beautifully.
Pink-on-pink looks pretty, but not little-girlish here. The bright skirt is right on trend.

Photos courtesy of Elle Magazine Online-"Street chic" Section:

The little tube top doesn't look slutty when paired with a high-waisted long skirt, and the coral color is beautiful for summer.

This look is warm-weather perfection.  The crochet top paired with a polka-dot skirt is cute but practical.

Finally, this look is reminiscent of grunge, but the draping makes it modern. I especially like the cut-out tank.

I'm in love with these fashionable outfits worn by real girls! I can't wait to use some of their ideas when putting together my outfits this summer. Which look is your favorite?

Magazine Monday - Spotlighting NYLON June/July 2012

Magazine Monday never gets old! It even inspired me to subscribe to 3 new magazines today! I’ll let you know how that turns out!

Today, I’m spotlighting Nylon’s June/July 2012 issue!

I love Nylon because it incorporates all of pop culture, but in such a fashionable way! It also introduces us to great new music, movies, people, etc. I think fashion encompasses so much, so it’s great to see it intertwined with every form of entertainment!

Plus, that is an awesome cover with Shirley Manson of Garbage! (Oh, the memories! Yes, I own their self titled debut album!) I love her combination looks! Her hair is half tamed, half wild, the dress is half structured, half free flowed. It's so much, yet it works so well!

Nylon has great photographs that are cute, fun, and raw! I loved this swimsuit spread! It’s all about great colors and patterns for swimwear this summer! Check out the great options Nylon offers! (Page 160)

Because I’m a sucker for interesting looks, I stopped on Rye Rye, a up and coming hip-hop artist!

The bubble glasses are what drew me in, and the amazing colors is what kept me interested! I especially LOVE bright yellows on darker skin; the color pops right off and draws all of the attention to you! She’s been around for a while, but she’s starting to blow up, and I can understand why! Her fun style, her sick beats, and catchy songs are ittt! Check out her VEVO and her newest single, Dance below! (Page 166)

Other noteworthy Nylon articles:

- Great sailor style items in pretty blues and yellows! Plus, that watch is so cute!

- Neon Trees headlining the Nylon + Starbuck’s Frappuccino summer music tour! Such a good band! And check out their videos for great fashion moments!

- Rebecca Willa Davis’ report on the avant garde female artist fashion movement, beginning with my favorite, Lady Gaga! Also, look at this amazing illustration by Beata Boucht (Page 108).

- Justin Hollar’s article on Regina Spektor, “Against the Grain,” which focuses on Spektor’s unique and independent approach to her own career. I love her and her style! So cute (Page 116).

Music and fashion? What could be better!?

What articles are you loving this Magazine Monday?
