Celeb Saturday- Celebs Do Layers

I look forward to the colder fashion seasons primarily because I can combine my light, airy summer pieces with chunky sweaters and long pants into a fashionable and cozy layered ensemble.  Layering is economical, visually interesting, and provides the perfect medium for expressing creativity (throwing simple and classic out the door).

Take a look at how some of my favorite celebrities wear layers.  From bohemian, to sexy, to effortless and casual, these ladies utilize their personal styles and creativity in creating layered outfits with depth.

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen:
Mary Kate and Ashley are the modern originators of the pile-it-all-on-at-once look. I don't think they are ever photographed wearing a simple sheath dress or a pantsuit! Somehow though, these twins always manage to look perfectly chic- outfits complete with scarves, dresses, vests, and jackets, all at once.

 Vanessa Hudgens:
Vanessa's style has evolved into a very sexy aesthetic, and her layered ensembles represent this personal style very well.  She layers sheer skirts with matte jackets, and short-shorts with long, draped cardigans.  Vanessa uses layering to show us just enough, and always leave us wanting more!

Emma Watson:
Emma is drawn to close-fitting, structured pieces.  For many people, layering structure with structure would look too severe.  But Emma shows us how to do it- keeping the overall feeling of each look laid-back, wearing structured pieces that aren't too trend-inspired and that blend well with one another.

Keira Knightley:
Keira Knightly is a laid-back, relaxed, casually cool lady.  Her style and her layered looks are just as she is- relaxed and casual, but still unbearably chic.  Belting a loose-fitting dress or pant worn underneath a jacket is her recent signature ensemble.

Love the layered look? Then check out my latest outfit post here! I'm not a celeb, but I love to layer with the best of them.

Which celebrity layered look is your favorite? And how do you layer?

Thrifty Thursday - Building for Fall

Little by little, I've been picking up fall essentials during the summer! I think it's good to prepare beforehand, especially if you can find great deals!

H&M has been all about their mustard, and I'm all about buying every mustard piece! It's my favorite color for fall! I think it looks good on just about any skin tone, and it's a color you don't see that often (until now!) ...I've realized I can wear a complete mustard outfit with my current wardrobe! Too much of a good thing isn't always best. Also, who can pass up a $10 sweater??

There's that awkward transition stage when fall comes around, so t-shirts are still wearable, either layered into a look or on it's own. Couldn't pass up this simple blue $5 shirt! I also love t-shirts with breast pockets - they add a little something extra!

I have a vision for an outfit and absolutely needed this black button up to complete the look. Lucky for me, a black button up is a true staple that can go with so many looks! It especially balances bright or interesting pants. Again, I couldn't beat the $15 price!

When you're building your fall wardrobe:

1) It's okay to buy a signature color, especially if it looks good on you! Just don't wear them all at once!

2) Don't forget the details! Make sure to pick up little pieces you can layer into your looks!

3) Staples will get you far. They mix well and balance statement and trendy pieces!

4) If the price is good - get it!

Have you started shopping for the fall yet? What's you favorite piece so far?

Twofer Tuesday- Golden Goddess, Fall Trend Alert!

Gold clothing is by no means a new idea for the Fall 2012 season. It was an extremely popular choice for full- length evening gowns in the 1970's, actually. Trends are almost always recycled. However, for this season we see gold clothing in interesting silhouettes like close-fitting low-cut maxi dresses, and in many different shades- from shiny and dramatic, to muted and matte.

On the runway we saw tons of gold for the upcoming season, and all of the looks were dramatic. But for the real girls on the street, we can mix a shiny gold piece with more muted and understated pieces for a fashion-forward, eye-catching, yet completely wearable look. Check out the runway inspiration and real-world affordable gold pieces I've found for you!

On The Runway:
Elie Saab

Alice & Olivia

Marchesa

Get The Look:
American Apparel- Gold Dress ($75.00)

UrbanOG- Gold Studded Loafers($29.20)

ASOS- Gold Snake-Print Skirt ($66.28)

Forever 21- Gold Top ($17.80)

SheInside.com- Loose Gold Sweater with Sequins ($55.00)

Charlotte Russe- Gold Metallic Legging ($14.99)

2020ave- Golden Woven Shorts ($22.00)

So, do you think you'll mix some gold into your everyday look? I know I will!

Thrifty Thursday - Small Haul for Fall

I did a little shopping at H&M and picked up a few things for fall!

Super Slim Fit Black Pants - $24.95

I saw these pants, initially, on a mannequin and thought they were a really good fit with nice stretch. Plus I've been dying for a pair of decent black jeans! Luckily, I was able to find them in my size! I think they'll be a perfect fit for a chunky sweater or coat. I like mixing small garments with larger ones - but keeping it all trim is fine too if you can pull it off!

H&M Sweater - $15

I've seen this sweater on sale for a while now, and for one reason or another, I've been picking it up, carrying it around the store, and then ending up not getting it (don't you hate when you do that??? ;) ) So, this time, it was still there in my size, so I figured it was a sign! I realized it's 100% cotton and would be great for dyeing too! Good price and good options for it!

I think I'll wear it a few times as beige, and then play with dye!

So, what are you dying to wear for the fall? And what color should I dye my chunky sweater??
