What I Wore Wednesday- Outfits With Blouses

The blouse is an important wardrobe staple for every woman.  Blouses can be worn during every season, and for every occasion.  They can be styled as funky, girly, polished, androgynous, military-inspired, gypsy, bohemian, or anywhere in between.  We can buy them fitted, over-sized, slouchy, tunic-length, or cropped. They are made in prints, solids, chiffon, silk, cotton, crepe, and any other fabric or fabric style that you can imagine.  The possibilities for incorporating blouses into outfits are endless!

Today isn't Wednesday, but I have two great outfits featuring two of my favorite go-to blouses to show you this Thursday.  The first look I wore on my birthday, and it features my favorite printed silk blouse and a shiny voluminous skirt- funky with a bit of sophistication.  The second look I wore to school and although it isn't quite cool enough for fall outfits, I layered my basic white blouse with a sweater and boots anyway.  I can't wait any longer for the weather to get cool.  I must layer now!

What I Wore Wednesday- Two Outfits, One Bag

Rarely do I build an outfit around an accessory. Usually I'm inspired by a recent top or sweater purchase, perhaps by a cool pair of pants. This week however, I was inspired to build TWO outfits around an accessory-and you'll see why.

The satchel that inspired my outfits is versatile and chic- easily transitioning from everyday casual to nighttime sassy. Since my life (and the life of almost every woman I know) has occasion for both sorts of outfits, owning a handbag that saves me the time it takes to switch the contents of my purse from day bag to night clutch is invaluable.

As is the case almost every week, I created a funky nighttime party look and a casual relaxed daytime look. The two looks don't use the same color palate, but both are complimented by my beloved neutral color block satchel. Which look is your favorite?

Look One:

Tank- Banana Republic

Thrifty Thursday- My Fall Wish-List

Since the birthday that officially marks the beginning of my mid-twenties is in two weeks, why should I kick-start a fall wardrobe with my own money? Instead, I can just make a wish list and give it to my gift-givers to "surprise" me with!

Now I know that might sound a little spoiled-brat-ish, but I certainly don't expect lavish gifts. Making a wish list only serves as a shopping inspiration guide for my family members AND for myself this  season. If I'm gifted with only one of these items (or an item similar to any of these), I will be more than happy. And if I'm gifted with none of them, then I guess I'll have to buy them myself after all!

For this fall fashion season I'm inspired by a rock-and-roll aesthetic.  I'm drawn to metallics, funky colors, and punky jewelry.  Mixed with some classic pieces, I can incorporate these new, trendy items into a cold-weather wardrobe that is 100% Elle Michele.

Metallic Jeggings
Victoria's Secret- $79.70

 A Funky Printed Cardigan
ASOS-$32.36

 Colorful Loafers
UrbanOG- $19.70

Black-and-White Pants
GoJane- $24.20

A Collared Blouse
Forever 21- $17.80

A Rock-and-Roll Bracelet
Urban Outfitters- $16.99

And a Denim Jacket
Old Navy- $34.94

Which piece is your favorite? And what are you dying to buy this Fall?

Freaky Friday- Stockholm Street Style via streetpeeper.com

Street Style photographs are inspirational to almost all of us who love fashion, I think.  But when I was searching for some inspirational street style photographs, I had no idea that I would find pictures of such interesting fashion in Sweden!

On streetpeeper.com there can be found a collection of street fashion photography on the avenues of Stockholm, Sweden. The aesthetic is funky with a little bit of freaky. We see lots of black and a lot of androgyny that makes us look twice at the face in the clothes.

The fashionistas and fashionistos of Stockholm embrace a style that is unique and looks effortlessly cool.  Although they appear carefree, like they just threw something on, I know that these guys and gays took the time to plan the amazing looks you're about to see:

What I Wore Wednesday-Checkered Prints with a Slouchy Tee

I'm never much of a hat-wearer, but I found a checkered fedora in my closet and I thought I'd try it out and build and outfit around it.  The mood for the outfit was casual- I went to eat Mexican food, went thrifting, and went to a movie. So I thought that slouchy was the best way to style an outfit for this particular day.

The skirt I wore uses almost exactly the same checks as the fedora does, which could have lead to a matchy-matchy ensemble.  To avoid that, I mixed in a slouchy tee, tan oxfords, and some funky jewelry. The outfit ended up looking polished-casual, and not matchy-matchy housewife.

Enjoy!

Fedora- Target
T-shirt- Forever 21
Skirt- American Apparel
Oxfords- Urban Outfitters
Necklace- ASOS
Bracelets- Family Heirlooms and Wetseal

Thrifty Thursday- This and That, Accessories

I don't really NEED more jewelry, but a girl can never have too much-right? This is what I was telling myself as I purchased a bunch of funky fashion jewelry this Thrifty Thursday. I found so many interesting pieces on sale and I couldn't help myself! Accessories make the outfit.

Samii Ryan makes some really cool and fashion-forward pieces. After being inspired by my recent post about rock-and-roll jewelry, I had to purchase her "Golden Girl" spike earrings. They will surely  edge-up any basic outfit.

Then, ASOS can't be beat for on-sale jewelry and accessories with FREE SHIPPING! Friendship bracelets are really popular right now, as are seed beads.  So I ordered a really interesting "friendship necklace" featuring lightning-bolt charms, and a seed-bead "Peace" bracelet.  The colors woven into the necklace are fun and the lightning bolts give it some edge. The bracelet is cute and versatile, and the "Peace" message is always appealing. Finally, since I'm in love with hair accessories (I once heard a celebrity say that we need to dress up our hair just like we dress up our feet) I purchased a filigree metal headband. I've never seen anything like it- Grecian mixed with girly.

What-I-Wore-Wednesday- Vintage Colorful

This Sunday I think that the people of Wilkes-Barre PA were looking at me and my outfit and thinking "Ew. What is that girl wearing?" My little brother told me I looked like a "hippie farm girl", which is obviously NOT the look I was going for. I however, am in LOVE with this look. I love mixing colors and prints together and I think the overall effect of this outfit is fun, girly, and a little bit funky-bohemian.

The skirt I'm wearing in the following pictures was purchased for about $3.00 at the thrift store. Can you believe it? It's beautiful and current because of the length and floral print. I styled the top with a knot to expose just the tiniest bit of midriff; it is summer after all! I added a few fun accessories in light, fresh colors to complete the look. I also sneaked in a few non-outfit pictures to give you the vibe of the day that my outfit fit into.

What do you think?

Chiffon Top- Forever 21
70s Maxi Skirt- Thrifted
Wedges- Bon Ton
Jewelry- Thrifted and Flea-Marketed ;)

What-I-Wore-Wednesday is perhaps the most fun day of the week on Anthony and Elle. You get a look into out personal lives and our personal wardrobes! Feel free to direct me to your outfit posts; I love looking at them.  And let me know what you think of mine.

Magazine Monday- In Style 20% off threadsence.com

In Style Magazine always gives readers insight into the best places to shop and offers discounts for these shops.  While looking for something to feature on Magazine Monday, I came across In Style's recommendation for threadsence.com. Much to my delight-this website houses clothing and accessories that are JUST my style-girly with a touch of funky!

In Style says"Want to rock leather shorts, plaid shirts, or an ethnic-print maxidress? Shop this diverse mix of youth-oriented lines". So many pieces are under $50.00 and almost everything is under $100.00. Pretty, fashion-forward, AND affordable? What else can a girl ask for? A discount- that's what! Enter INSTYLE20 at checkout to receive 20% off your order.

Take a look at some of my favorite pieces on the website:

Dress, $46.00

Sweater, $66.00
I especially love this sweater. It looks relaxed and comfortable, but the cut-out sleeves give it some visual interest.

Leggings, $33.00

Top, $39.00

Boots, $69.00
These boots are to die for and can be worn during the summer but will take you into the fall. The metallic is neutral but will give any outfit some punch.

Dress, $42.00

Skinny Pants, $50.00

Top, $33.00

Skirt, $53.00

Top, 37.00

Romper, $46.00

Purse, $38.00

Dress, $47.00
What a pretty dress. White suggests innocence, but the super-short skirt projects subtle sex-appeal.

This website is one of the best online shopping venues  I've discovered so far that targets young women, especially if you have the same sense of style as I do. Such great deals! So if you're in love with one (or all) of the pieces I've shown, make sure you take advantage of that In-Style magazine discount.
