Freaky Friday - Rie Hosokai

Sometimes random things just pop onto my computer and I couldn't be happier about this one! Rie Hosokai is an unconventional dressmaker who uses a very practical material... Balloons!

Okay, so maybe it's not practical at all, but it's awesome! I love the idea of using fashion and the body as an art, rather than something truly wearable in everyday! I think that's where the best design ideas come from.

So, everyone, enjoy... Rie Hosokai and his balloons!

Amazing, right? I wonder how long these garments last? I wonder if anyone ever wears them to an event? What's the process to get it together? I want to know all about it now!! Probably picking up his book...

  3. I love unconventional, art-like fashion! Last thursday was Fashion's Night Out here in the Netherlands in Amsterdam. Some Dutch designers were there, among them Iris van Herpen, whom I actually spoke to. You might know her, she has shown her latest collection during Paris Couture Week. Her designs are really sculptural and in a way these balloon designs remind me of her work. Maybe you should google Iris van Herpen, her work is so inspiring and beautiful!

    Love! Sam
