Celeb Saturday-Couture Fashion Week, Paris 2012

This week the word's fiercest fashionistas were in Paris for the 2012 Couture shows. The ladies wore simple, structured silhouettes with a few interesting details. Full skirts and cinched waists predominated the scene. Overall, the looks were clean and pretty- and I enjoyed looking at them, as I'm sure you will.

Take a look at some of my favorite outfits worn by the celebrities attending the Valentino and Chanel shows:

At Valentino:

Olivia Palermo in a baby pink tiered dress
She was a snobby mean-girl on The City- but Olivia looks great in clothes! I'd wear this dress in a heartbeat. The tiers of sheer lace are romantic and effortlessly glamorous. I bet it would look even better inside the venue, without the sunglasses.

Clémence Poésy in a simple tomato-red dress
This dress is reminiscent of the 50's. I love the full skirt and clean lines. However, I think it would have looked better and more interesting with nude accessories or with accessories in a contrasting color. Bright red and black look too severe together, without giving any visual interest.

Jessica Stam in a long-sleeved printed dress
I love this dress for the fall. I love the cinched waist and the sheer sleeves. The print is neutral and muted, but interesting and pretty. The nude booties are the dress's perfect companion, and the outfit doesn't need accessories.
Leslie Mann in a nude beaded dress
I love head-to-toe- neutral ensembles! I think that using different shades of the same neutral color makes an outfit look chic and modern, without being completely minimalistic and boring. This ensemble is perfection.

At Chanel:
Diane Kruger in a sky blue Chanel Pre-spring/Summer 2013 dress
Again, I love the 50's silhouette. This skirt is even more dramatically full than the similar dress Clémence Poésy wore to the Valentino show, and it looks beautiful. However, I HATE the hat with this dress. Berets are meant for casual street-wear looks, not for dramatic dresses.

Alexa Chung in a black jumper, tweed skirt and carrying a Chanel quilted cross-body bag
Alexa Chung never gets it wrong. This monochromatic look is exquisitely chic. She's wearing classic black- but the different textures and shades make the look interesting and aesthetically appealing.
Finally, Clémence Poésy (again) in a black embroidered shift dress
This girl is a fashion star, and this is probably my favorite look of all that I've talked about. The classic shift-dress becomes modern in this shiny body-conscious interpretation. The shoes are an interesting choice; I love seeing dresses worn with flats! The look is hipster-chic and I'd love to copy it!

I'm not especially interested in celebrity culture or in their personal lives or stories. I am, however, interested in their fashion! Celebrities can afford the most extravagant clothing and have resources to help with styling them in the most interesting ways. So, I love looking at the outfits they create, and I'd love to talk about these outfits with all of you!

Which look is your favorite?

  1. I have to say I like Alexa Chung's look the best--I just love how she can wear practically all black but still have such an incredible shape to her outfit.
